Rye, NH — Edward A. Hyder, 88, beloved husband of Ida Anitole Hyder, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover.
Born in Haverhill, Mass., he was the son of Abraham and Elisabeth (Ofeish) Hyder. He was a graduate of Haverhill High School and Mass Maritime Academy. He served in the merchant marine during World War II and survived the sinking of his ship in the North Atlantic. He was a member of the Mass Maritime Academy Alumni and trhe Masons.
Edward and his brothers, Mitchell and William, were well-known real estate developers in the New Hampshire seacoast region. Edward and his brothers were supporters of several local charitable foundations, but their proudest achievement was the building of the Hyder Family Hospice House in memory of their parents.
In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his sister, Ruth (Hyder) Bouzianis and husband, Dean, of Haverhill, Mass.; step-daughters, Janice Anitole Nick and Elaine Mueller; and numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Mitchell Hyder, William Hyder, Bessima (Hyder) McGuire, and Katherine (Hyder) Kaneb.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State Street, Portsmouth, NH 03801. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 40 Andrew Jarvis Drive, Portsmouth, NH 03801. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery in Rye, N.H.
