Salem, N.H. — Mary A. (Long) Rivet, 78, of Salem, N.H., passed away unexpectedly on April 23, at Prescott House in North Andover. She was born in Lawrence, Mass., on March 27, 1935, to the late Carl H. and Bertha E. (Mulchahey) Long. Mary was raised and educated in North Andover, Mass. She graduated from Johnson High School in 1952 and Merrimack College in 1954. Mary worked for Dr. Wallwork, Bon Secours Hospital and AVCO. She remained home for many years to raise her family and worked part time for BU Conference Center, Forgetta’s Flowers, and Northern Process Servers. Mary grew up in Steven’s Village, enjoyed swimming and lifeguarding at Steven’s Pond, vacationing at Plum Island and reading. She helped her husband build their family home on Foster Street and spent many hours in the yard and garden. She was a former member and the youngest president of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. Mary belonged to St. Michael’s Parish and had tremendous faith. Her husband and family were most important to her, and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Mary was a friend of Bill’s.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Francis E. Rivet; her children and their families, Patrice K. Ryan, of Sanbornton, N.H., and children, Mollie, Haley and Thomas; Christopher F. and Deborah L. (Walmsley) Rivet, of North Andover, and children, Kelsey, Daniel and Brian; Andrew F. Rivet, of Meridian, Miss.; Matthew F. and Pamela C. (Ubillos) Rivet, of North Andover, and children, Lexi, Christine and Katie; Kathleen R. and John E. Ratka, of Salem, N.H., and children Ryan and Jacob. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Alma Long, Corinne Long, Louise Long, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Mary was predeceased by her siblings, Kathleen Finck, Carl Long, Jr., Philip Long, Daniel Long, Kenneth Long, and her son-in-law Daniel Ryan.
