Haverhill, MA — Evelyn L. (Perkins) Valenti, 88, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Merrimack Valley Hospital.
Born in Shawnee, Okla., daughter of the late William and Callie (Campbell) Perkins, she attended local schools and graduated from Shawnee High School with the Class of 1942, where she was a member of the high school band.
Mrs. Valenti moved to Haverhill in 1946 and was employed in the local shoe industry as a sprayer at the former Lesande and Karelitz Shoe Companies. She also worked as a book-keeper at the former Valenti Auto Sales and Gas Station in Haverhill and owned and operated a used furniture store in Haverhill. In her later years, she worked as a crossing guard for the City of Haverhill School Department.
Mrs. Valenti enjoyed figure skating as a member of the Esquire Ladies Rollerskating Team at the former Skateland in Bradford and was the Massachusetts State Champion in 1963. A former President of the Ladies Auxiliary of AmVets Post 147 of Haverhill, and Past District President, she was active in several posts and was a longtime volunteer in local nursing homes and at several Veterans Administration hospitals.
The former wife of the late Louis Valenti and longtime companion of the late Ralph Russell, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Henry Foisy of Haverhill; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lynette Hoefler of Taunton; four grandchildren, Chad Foisy of Haverhill, Jillian (Foisy) Bauer of Larimore, N.D., Edward Hoeffler of Taunton and Eric Hoefler of Taunton; five great-grandchildren, Mariah, Austin, Madison and Brooke Hoefler and Douglas Bauer; and several cousins. She also leaves behind her good friends, Cecile Lessard, Helen Johnson and Arthur Salkins.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Hannah Duston Healthcare Center in Haverhill for the care and comfort provided to Mrs. Valenti and her family throughout the past several months and especially during her final illness.
