Lewis A. Morton Jr., 78


Seabrook, NH — Lewis A. Morton, longtime Amesbury resident, passed away early Monday morning at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport. He was born in Amesbury, and was the son of the late Lewis Sr. and Ethel (Turgeon) Morton.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959. He returned from his military service and was employed with International Shoe Machine as a machinist. He then worked for Hudson Machinery, traveling worldwide for them. More locally, he worked as a manager for the former Poiriers News, and later in his years, for Terry's Flower Shop. He was active in his community, serving as an Amesbury Auxiliary Policeman, the Amesbury 300th Anniversary Committee, Amesbury Sealer and Weights Dept., Amesbury Industrial Development Committee, once ran for selectman, and coached Little League Baseball. He was once involved in the Sacred Heart CYO and was a member of the Amesbury Polish Club and the Post #70 American Legion of Seabrook.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline (Roy) Morton; two sons, Glen Morton and wife, Sherry, and James Morton and wife, Chris Jean, all of Seabrook; one daughter, Lynette Blaney and husband, Gordon, of Salisbury; his brother, Wayne Morton and wife, Barbara, of Scotts Valley, Calif.; one sister, Marsha Scholl of Epping, N.H.; his uncle, Walter Turgeon of Merrimac, Mass.; his aunt, Dorothy Jean of Amesbury; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was father of the late Gary Morton, and brother of the late David Seamans.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 20, at 10 a.m., in the Holy Family Parish Church, 2 School St., Amesbury. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., Amesbury, will be held on Wednesday February 19, from 4 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 9 Erie Dr., Suite 101, Natick, MA 01760.
