Salisbury, MA — Victor M. Rivela, 97, died Friday, June 21, at Wingate Healthcare in Haverhill, Mass., after a brief illness. He was the son of Sebastian and Alfia Rivela of Biancavilla, Sicily, Italy. He was the youngest of five boys in a family of eight children. Born and educated in Lawrence, Mass., he worked at Grieco Brothers in Lawrence for over 40 years. After retiring, he volunteered at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen for over 20 years.
He was a man of integrity. He worked hard to take care of his family. He was a devoted family man who was always there if anyone in the family needed help. He performed these good deeds in a quiet and unassuming way. He was an avid reader, especially of American history, enjoyed gardening, playing cards, bowling, and the Boston Red Sox.
He was married to the late Nellie (Smeriglio) Rivela for over 60 years. He leaves one son, Dennis P. Rivela, of Hampstead, N.H.; his daughter, Rachel M. Beckman, of Salsibury, Mass.; and one grandson, Nicholas A. Beckman, of New York City.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends will be received at visiting hours on Tuesday, June 25, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Wednesday, June 26, at 10 a.m., at St. Lucy’s Church, 254 Merrimack St., Methuen. Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Mausoleum in Lawrence
