Haverhill, MA — Madeline N. (Cusano) Bucuzzo, 88, lifelong Haverhill resident, passed on Sunday morning at Hannah Duston Nursing Home in Haverhill, after a period of declining health, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Michael J. Bucuzzo.
She was one of four children of the late Ralph and Antoinette (Savinelli) Cusano. Madeline was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1943, and attended the Fazio Institute of Cosmetology in Lawrence, becoming a licensed hairdresser, and for many years owned her own beauty shop.
Madeline and her family lived in the Riverside section of Haverhill most of her life. She was a longtime, active member of St. John the Baptist Church.
She had diverse interests and always kept busy. Whether making arts and crafts for church fairs, family and friends, or shopping, antique hunting, setting up for flea markets, playing cards, especially bridge and 45’s, entertaining, preparing exquisite meals for family functions, and remaining an avid Red Sox fan through good times and bad, she never slowed down. Madeline loved to travel, especially to the beach, and often talked about her unforgettable anniversary trip to Bermuda, as well as the spectacular western adventure to Seattle, and the drive along the entire West Coast.
As a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and friend, she valued her relationships with everyone, realizing that was the most important part of life - the connections we make with those we love. Her generosity of spirit and thoughtful, caring ways will never be forgotten.
In addition to her husband of more than 65 years, she is survived by her son, Michael R. Bucuzzo; her niece, Carole Azzarito and husband, Frank; her nephews, Ralph D. Cusano and wife, Francine, and Michael Cortese and fiancée, Carolann Cass; her brother-in-law, John Bucuzzo and wife, Betty, and their two sons, Scott and Mark; grandnieces and grandnephews; and dear friends, including Claudia Cunningham, Karen de la Motte, Mary Ann Howard and Mary Cormier. Madeline was predeceased by her daughter, Mary A. Bucuzzo; her brother, Angelo M. Cusano; and her sisters, Ellena Cortese and Grace Cusano; and many dear friends.
