Wolfeboro, NH — Glenn C. Stewart, 91, died on April 8, 2014, at Wolfeboro Bay Genesis after a period of failing health. He was born on December 24, 1922, in Exeter, NH, the son of the late Earl H. and Ethelind (Hoyt) Stewart. A graduate of Exeter High School and former longtime resident of East Kingston, NH, he had resided in Wolfeboro for the last six years.
Mr. Stewart served in the United States Navy as a Pharmicist’s Mate aboard the John A. Bole, a ship that participated in the Battle of Okinawa during World War II. He also served during the Korean War. He was the original owner and operator of the Haverhill Beef Company, and later moved on to start Mr. G’s Supermarket in Exeter, NH. He later returned to Haverhill Beef Company to work as a manager and meat cutter before retiring. Glenn was a member of the Gideon Masonic Lodge of Kingston, NH, the VFW Post 29 in Haverhill, MA and the Wingold Grange of East Kingston, NH. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley F. (Long) Stewart of Wolfeboro, NH; his son, Glenn C. and his wife, Patricia Stewart, of Ossipee, NH; his daughter, Gail A. Stewart and her fiancé, Marvin Weiner, of Winchester, MA; four grandchildren, Kristie Hallett of Bangor, ME, Nicole Medina of the Philippines, Matthew Stewart of Exeter, NH and Emily Stewart of Exeter, NH; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Betty Jean Lusona of Exeter, NH; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Stewart.
ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2014, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 14, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the East Kingston Community United Methodist Church, located on 34 Depot Road in East Kingston, NH. Burial with Military Honors will be held in Hillside Cemetery in East Kingston, NH at a later date.
