Haverhill, MA — Rita E. (Carbone) Cappabianca, 98, of Haverhill, Mass., died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill.
Born and raised in Haverhill, Mass., she was the daughter of August and Celestina (Bacigalupo) Carbone. She attended Haverhill High School, graduating with the Class of 1936, and MacIntosh Business College. She worked for the Boot and Shoe Workers Union Office and for Carbone’s Market, which was a well-known business run by her family.
A member of All Saints Parish and the former St. Rita’s Parish, she was a member of the Legion of Mary and St. Anthony Sodality. She was also a member of the Haverhill Women’s City Club and the Haverhill Guild for the Blind. An avid Red Sox fan, Mrs. Cappabianca also enjoyed reading, cooking, and line dancing at the Senior Citizen’s Center.
The widow of Libero Cappabianca who died in 1987, she is survived by a step-son, Anthony “Tony” Cappabianca and his wife, Loretta of Haverhill; two grandchildren, Francis Cappabianca of Reading and Linda Cappabianca of Haverhill; a brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Genevieve Carbone of Brookline; nieces and nephews, Gloria Thomas of Haverhill, Carol Honor of Haverhill, Carl Cosio of Holbrook, David Carbone of Deerfield, N.H., and Andrena Borrello of Punta Gorda, Fla., and several cousins. She was also predeceased by a sister, Julia Cosio, and brothers, Alfred, Romeo and Theodore Carbone.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at 2 to 6 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway (Route 97), Haverhill, MA. Her funeral will begin on Monday, April 14, 2014, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church, Haverhill. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Macular Degeneration Research, 22512 Gateway Center Dr., P.O.
