Robert J. Devoe, 83


Danvers — Robert J. Devoe, 83, of Danvers and formerly of Salem, died at his home, Emeritus Assisted Living, on Monday, April 21, 2014, with his family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Lorraine R. (Caron) Devoe, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late George W. and Bernadette I. (Fournier) Devoe. As a young man, Bob first worked for the former Pequot Mills of Salem. With the closing of the mills, he began working for A.C. Lawrence Leathers in Peabody, and remained for nearly 20 years, while working at his own, Devoe’s Upholstery Shop, for 40 years. He retired 27 years ago.

Bob was a hardworking man, who was devoted to his family. He was a 50-year member of the Salem/Beverly B.P.O.E. 1309, and was a member of the former St. Joseph Parish and St. James Parish of Salem.

In addition to his wife, Lorraine, he is survived by four daughters, Vivian M. Abate and her husband, Alfred, of Methuen, Catherine I. Doyon and her husband, Bertrand, of Hooksett, N.H., Nancy J. Libby and her husband, William, of Danvers, and Michelle L. Ricci and her husband, Tom, of Groveland; four sons, Robert J. Devoe Jr. and his wife, Lois, of Salem, Stephen R. Devoe of Salem, Paul R. Devoe and his wife, Cynthia, of Wakefield, and Michael R. Devoe and his wife, Robin, of Salem, N.H. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Jacqueline Demeule; and brothers, Roger and Albert Devoe.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., Route 114/1A, Salem, on Friday, April 25, at 10 a.m., followed by his funeral Mass in St. James Church, 156 Federal St., Salem, at 11 a.m. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be on Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Salem.
