Haverhill — Irma C. (Grassi) Pasquale, 89, a lifelong resident of Bradford and Haverhill, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2014, at Haverhill Hospice House, with her family by her side.
She was the daughter of Oreste and Angelina (Mori) Grassi. Irma was a 1941 graduate of Haverhill High School and a 1945 graduate of Massachusetts College of Art.
After raising her four children, she worked as a homemaker health aide for Visiting Nurses and was a teachers aide in the Haverhill School System. She was a member of the Universalist Unitarian Church, where she was loved by all, and was the recording secretary of the Ladies Circle. Irma was also a member of the Haverhill City Women’s Club and the Northern Essex Book Club.
An accomplished artist, she covered countless chairs with decoupage, and her home was adorned with many of her abstract works. Some of most cherished moments were introducing her grandchildren and great grandchildren to crayon, marker and paper.
Irma also played the piano and entertained family, friends and groups to anything from “Rhapsody in Blue” to “New York State of Mind” to carols during the Christmas Holidays. Her summers were devoted to her flower and rock gardens, which were on display for all to see overlooking the Merrimack River.
She is survived by her four children, Andrew Pasquale and his wife, Marian, of Haverhill, Catherine Merchant of Haverhill, Anne and her husband, Paul St. Onge of Kingston, N.H., and John Pasquale of Haverhill and his girlfriend, Vicki Bush; six grandchildren, Tara McCarthy-Stahl, Bryan, Amy, Jeffrey, Matthew, and Christopher St. Onge; and five great-grandchildren. She was the former wife of the late Ralph Pasquale; grandmother of the late Patrick McCarthy; and mother-in-law of the late Peter Merchant.
