Barbre L. McMurray, 84


Roswell, GA — Barbre L. McMurray, 84, died peacefully in her home in Roswell, Ga., on April 26, 2014. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on July 26, 1929, to Donald F. McMurray and Alice D. (Grady) McMurray, both also from Brooklyn. Barbre attended Baldwin High School in Baldwin, N.Y. She then earned her Bachelor of Scince in nursing from Northern Essex Community College, Haverhill, Mass. Barbre was married to Harold C. Schneider of Baldwin, N.Y., and they had seven children together. While still raising her children and working full-time, Barbre returned to college in the evenings to earn her nursing degree. She was employed for a number of years as a geriatric nurse at Rockingham County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Brentwood, N.H. She spent time as a psychiatric nurse at Hampstead Hospital in Hampstead, N.H., and eventually retired from Portsmouth Hospital in Portsmouth, N.H. In her early retirement, Barbre was actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren. Later, at her home at St. George Village in Roswell, Barbre was an active organizer and participant in her community prayer group. She was a constant and compassionate advocate for those in her community who could not speak for themselves. She was also an avid gardener, accomplished seamstress, cat fancier, dog lover, and prolific reader. Barbre is survived by her seven children, Rev. Thomas D. McMurray, S.J. (Jesuit priest) of Portland, Maine, Michael Ann Grady of Sunapee, N.H., Harold C. (Katherine) Schneider Jr. of Cumming, Ga., Daniel P. (Julie Belmer Spencer) Schneider of Groveland, Mass., Kathleen M. (Ed Lennon) Phillips of Seekonk, Mass., Timothy P. (Maritza) Schneider of Raymond, N.H., and Megan J. (John) Gorman of Flanders, N.J.; and her sister, Jean Ann McMurray of Summerfield, Fla. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Joshua and Matthew Phillips, Daniel Jr. and Connor Schneider, Brandon and Naomi Schneider, and Ryan, Brandon and Michael Flaherty. She was predeceased by her beloved granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Schneider.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Friday, May 2, at St. Brigid Church, Westbury, N.Y., with Thomas McMurray of the Society of Jesus officiating. A graveside service will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury.
