Vivian (Childs) Talbot, 92


Plaistow, NH. — Vivian (Childs) Talbot, 92, of Plaistow, NH died Wednesday evening, December 26, at her residence.

She was born in Haverhill, MA, November 2, 1920, daughter of the late Walter E. and Edna (Beauvais) Childs. She grew up in Salem, NH, but after her mother died when she was twelve, her family moved to Haverhill.

Educated in the Haverhill school system, Mrs. Talbot graduated from Haverhill High School, Class of 1938. In 2008, she chaired her class’s 70th reunion celebration.

She and husband moved to Closter, NJ in 1950 and for over 35 years, owned and operated the Closter Fabric Shoppe. In addition to raising a family and operating the fabric business, she was very active in her community and The Reformed Church of Closter.

She moved back to the Haverhill area in 1993 to be closer to her daughter and family. She was a member of the Groveland Congregational Church, President of the Sumner Circle at the Church, and a member of the Haverhill Leisure Club.

A gifted quilter, Mrs. Talbot won many awards for her work and was very creative developing and patenting many practical and artistic works made with fabrics. She was honored in 2002 with a presentation of her life’s work at the Plaistow Public Library.

She was the wife of the late Ernest Talbot who died in 1983, and mother of the late Joan T. Guptill who died in 2007.

Her greatest joy was being with family and friends. Her survivors include her son-in-law, Robert V. Guptill of Groveland, two grandsons, Steven T. Guptill of Charlotte, NC, Jeffrey T. Guptill and his wife Alison (Prestia) of Raleigh, NC, two great grandchildren, Mira P. and Alexander T. Guptill, and many nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, January 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. Her graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 3, at 11 a.m. in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen, MA. A memorial service will be held at the Groveland Congregational Church, 4 King St., Groveland on a date and time to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the memorial fund of the Groveland Congregational Church. Condolences to her family may be made at
