Gilbert F. Socia, 85


Methuen — Gilbert F. “Red” Socia - 85, of Methuen and formerly of Lawrence, passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, December 26, 2012.

Born in Island Falls, Maine on June 30,1927, he was the son of the late Augustus and Justine Leah (Potvin) Socia. He was raised and attended school in Island Falls, Maine. Gilbert worked as a shipper for the Watts Regulator in Lawrence for 43 years. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II and a member of the 612th AAF Base Unit.

Gilbert had a kind and generous heart, who showed unconditional love to his family and friends. He connected with others through storytelling and laughter. He had an unforgettable personality.

He loved reading about history, science and aviation. He also appreciated art, music and baseball. He played the Harmonica and enjoyed singing. Gilbert attended the Riverside Assembly of God in Methuen for many years.

Family members include his loving wife of 30 years, Thelma M. (Croswell) Socia; his sons, John Young of Bridgewater and Allan Finnegan of Winchendon; his daughters, Lynne Messer and her husband Jeffrey of Methuen, Paula Loring and her husband James of Greer, SC and Donna Pavlosky of Nashua, NH. Also survived by eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
