Haverhill, MA — Earle C. Wilkins, age 95, longtime Haverhill resident, died Thursday,January 10 2013 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, surrounded by his family.
Born in Haverhill, June 4, 1917, he was the son of the late Irving C. and Abigail F. (Bailey) Wilkins and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1936.
A veteran of World War II, Earle served with the United States Army Air Corps from October 14, 1940 until his honorable discharge on May 19, 1945 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He had seen action in campaigns in Algeria, French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily and Naples-Foggia and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal, American Defense Service Medal; and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with four Service Stars. Proud to have served his country, it was with great pride that he recalled his service as an Airman, radio operator and carbine sharpshooter.
After his military career, he was a project technician at MIT Lincoln Labs in Lexington, Massachusetts until his retirement.
If you needed something repaired or a problem solved he was the man to ask. He could always find something out in the barn that would be just the thing you needed. He loved the music of the Big Band Era and a good laugh. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom he absolutely adored.
Earle leaves behind his beloved wife, Lettitia E. (Warburton) Wilkins to whom he has been married 60 years; two sons, Paul C. Wilkins and wife Linda and Roger E. Wilkins and wife Patricia all of Haverhill; his daughter, Donna E. Ringenwald and husband Thomas of Amherst, NH; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Russell Wilkins.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 12 P.M. at the Paul C. Rogers Family-Scatamacchia Funeral Home, 334 Main Street, Haverhill, with an hour of visitation prior to the services from 11 to 12 P.M. Interment in Walnut Cemetery, Haverhill will be private.
