BRADFORD — Frank A. Oberti, 87, died Sunday, January 20, 2013 in the Hannah Duston Health Care Center surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Mary R. (Guaetta) Oberti who died in July of 2001.
Born in Haverhill on May 28, 1925, he was the son of the late Frank A. and Margherita (Gastaldi) Oberti. He was a lifelong resident of Haverhill and a graduate of Haverhill High School class of 1944. Frank served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II. He was a Private 1st Class in the Company B 15th Infantry Regiment of the Third Division and he was honorably discharged in 1945 - recepient of the Purple Heart Medal and Bronze s Star. After the military he received a degree in Building Construction from the Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Frank worked as self-employed carpenter and builder for many years and never completely retired. He was well known for his fine craftsmanship and had built many homes in the Haverhill area.
Frank was an animal lover and enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He also liked to read, especially about the history of wars. He was a man who had a thirst for gaining knowledge in many areas. All that he had read or learned about, he would share with others. Frank had a respect for education and encouraged the same of his children. He was a devoted and thoughtful family man and played an active role in the lives of his children and grandchildren. The memories that have been made will be forever cherished in their hearts.
He is survived by his two children, a son, Dr. Frank A. Oberti, III; his daughter, Mary-Louise Conte and her husband, John J. all of Bradford; three grandchildren, Amanda R. Silberhorn and her husband, Evan of Malden and Eric J. and James A. Conte both of Bradford; a brother, William J. Oberti of Michigan; a sister-in-law, Domenica “Mamie” Guaetta of Merrimac; several nieces and nephews and his beloved German Shepherd “Dante.” He was also predeceased by his brother, Louis J. Oberti and his sister, Margaret M. Masera. His family would like to thank Merrimac Valley Hospice and the staff at Hannah Duston Healthcare Center - Bradford Unit, for treating Frank with such dignity, respect and love- they beacame his second family.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel at Sacred Hearts Church, 165 South Main Street, Bradford at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill from 3 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Frank’s memory to the Discalced Carmelite Monastery, 15 Mt. Carmel Road, Danvers, MA 01923. Irene was a graduate of the former McIntosh Business School in Lawrence, and later was employed by the Textile Workers Union CIO for 10 years, prior to staying home to raise her family. Upon returning to the business world, she was employed as the administrative assistant to the president of the former Arlington Trust Company in Lawrence. She retired in 1987, after 26 years of service, and spent her later years making quilts for her family, friends and homeless shelters.
