SOUTH LAWRENCE — Rose M. Romel, 92, passed away Friday morning at her long-time South Lawrence home after a brief period of declining health.
She was the widow of the late Joseph F. Romel, they celebrated their anniversary on February 14, he passed away on July 15, 1988. A native of Haverhill, she was the daughter of Sebastian and Mary (Pacheco) Grasso.
In her early years, she was employed as a supervisor in the shoe industry shops of Haverhill. Later, a significant role in her life was being a mother and making her home comfortable for her children and family.
She had a special interest in gardening and crafts. Family memories recall her great sense of humor; times spent enjoying the outdoors, and playing bingo.
Family members include two sons, Joseph Romel and his wife, Gail, Glen Romel and his wife, Tammy; two daughters, Diana Burke, Deborah Riso and her fiancé, Chip Atherton; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren; three sisters, Annie Byra, Lucy Johnson, and Alice Greenwood; several nieces and nephews; four brothers predeceased her.

Calling hours are Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday in St. Patrick Church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow on Thursday in our parish cemetery, Holy Sepulchre, Waverly Road, North Andover.
