Joseph M. Shank, Sr., 81

Sandown, NH — Joseph M. Shank, Sr., 81, of Sandown, NH, died Friday, February 22, 2013 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH. He was born in Lawrence, MA on March 19, 1931, a son of Arthur and Yvonne (Patry) Shank, and had been a resident of Sandown for many years. Joseph was a US Navy and Air Force veteran serving during the Korean Conflict, and was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He had been employed as a salesman for Prudential Insurance Co. Joseph was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Derry, and was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus St. Maximillian Kolbe council # 9058 in Hampstead, where he was a 4th Degree Knight. He was a member of the Greccio Fraternity of Secular Franciscans, and was active in Cursillo at St. Basil's in Methuen, MA. Joseph had served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Anne's Church in Hampstead where he was also a cantor, a lector, and had served as Chairman of the first Parish Council of St. Anne's Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth (Atkins) Shank of Sandown; one daughter, Kathy Shank of West Chesterfield, NH; three sons, Jeffrey Shank and his wife Deborah of Derry, Daniel Shank and his wife Amy of CA, Joseph Shank, Jr. and his wife Veronica of TN; his foster children, Yung & Tau Doan of Alexandria, NH, and Tung and his wife; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; his sister, Georgette Parent of Manchester, NH; two brothers, Kenneth Shank of Hollywood, FL, and Donald & Mona Shank of Methuen, MA. He was predeceased by his brother, Rodney Shank who lived in Methuen, MA.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 28th from 3 - 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry. The burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in E. Derry. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry, NH 03038. She was the sister of Albert Conte and his wife, Winifred, of Weymouth and the late Gilda Magistri, Alfred Conte, Esther Spinelli and Mary Cottone. She was the grandmother of Lynda and Michelle Laurenza, both of Stoneham, Christopher Burns and his wife, Melanie, of New Hampshire, Jayme Laurenza and his wife, Kerry, of Billerica and Nicholas of Cambridge. She was also the great-grandmother of Lauren, Isabelle, Megan, Matthew, Christa, Allison and Anthony.

Charliene P. Moore, 67

Atkinson, NH — Charliene P. Moore died May 16, 2013, in Pleasant Valley, N.H., after a long illness from cancer. She was born in Cambridge, Mass., on Aug. 16, 1945, daughter of the late Pearl and Charles Moore. She grew up in Everett, Mass., and graduated from Malden High. Charliene worked at the IRS for 20 years and for Securitas Services where her security assignments included stints at Sweetheart Plastics, Hewlitt Packard and Global Insights. She fought a long, hard battle with cancer and through it all loved her co-workers and friends. Charliene is survived by her longtime companion, Linda McAdams of Atkinson, N.H., and “Mac,” her furry little friend. Special thanks for the love and support given by the Nursing Staff from the Pleasant Valley Nursing Home and the Compassionate Hospice Care, where memorial donations may be sent in lieu of flowers to 25 Nashua Road #3, Londonderry, NH 03053.
