Methuen — Joseph Frank Spinella, 1933-2013 of Methuen, Massachusetts passed away early Sunday morning on February 24, 2013 at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.
Joseph was born and raised in Andover, Massachusetts within the Shawsheen community. He was the youngest son of eleven children of the late, Lucia Romano Spinella and Francesco Spinella. His surviving brothers and sisters are Salvatore Spinella, Grace Chiaramida and Constance Maria. He was educated and a graduate of Punchard High School in Andover. He was also a decorated war veteran of the Korean conflict. When he returned home he pursued a career - going to school days and working full time in Boston.
He began working at Raytheon which allowed him the opportunity to travel and explore his love for electronics. On assignment in Germany, he met the love of his life Lieselotte. He was at Raytheon for 40 plus years and later in life, with his wife, he donated over 20 years assisting and caring for special needs children and adults.
Joseph was married for 45 years to his loving wife, Lieselotte Spinella. He is survived by his wife Lieselotte, his children Suzanne Leonhart, Lisa Spinella and David Spinella, His grandson Jason Leonhart and his great- granddaughter Bianca Leonhart, who affectionately called him Opa. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and devoted friends.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that those who wish to remember Joseph, to make a memorial contribution in his memory to CLASS Inc., Attention Nancy Kieran, 1 Parker St. Lawrence, MA 01843 in honor of his great work with the special needs.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Cataudella Funeral Home 126 Pleasant Valley St. Methuen. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Our Lady of Good Counsel / St. Theresa’s Church 22 Plymouth St. Methuen.
