North Andover — Daniel J. Collins, 72, a resident of North Andover passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Lawrence General Hospital after his courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born on July 6, 1940 in Everett, MA. Daniel was the son of the late Daniel J. Collins and Eleanor (Ardini) Collins. He was raised and educated in Revere, MA and graduated from Wentworth Institute of Boston, MA with an engineering degree. Dan was employed with Polaroid Corporation as an engineer; he retired in 1997 after thirty-seven years of service. Dan found great comfort in his faith in God, and as a member of the United Methodist Church in North Andover. He did volunteer work in the summer months with the church, going up to Kingfield, Maine and helping the less fortunate with building and repair work. He loved to hike with his friends from the church and in earlier years was involved as a youth hockey coach. He also loved to travel. Dan’s favorite trips were to Germany and Colorado, as he spoke of these travels many times. Dan and his wife Cathy met while attending a weekly Bible Study and later married. They were always doing everything together. They loved skiing, antiquing, and walking along the beach looking for sea glass. Dan and Cathy took many trips to their home in Fort Myers, Florida, shelling on Sanibel and Captiva Islands. This was a special place that Dan and his beloved wife enjoyed.
