Methuen — Nancy M. (Lostimolo) Traina, a lifelong resident of Lawrence and Methuen passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, February 28, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Nancy was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary (D’Angelo) Lostimolo. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School and fulfilled a lifelong dream when she completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Rivier College at age 59. Nancy then became a school teacher, licensed in both Elementary Education and Special Education. Over the next 10 years, Nancy educated many children at both Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s Elementary Schools in Lawrence, MA. She was a tireless advocate for children and dedicated herself to enrich the lives of others. Most will remember her love and vocation for music through the elaborate productions she created with her students. All of her boys and girls were required to sing and memorize the lyrics to the Annie theme song and Nancy’s favorite, “The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow”. Nancy spent the early years of her career as a dedicated secretary for the Beach Soap Company and the Ventura Plumbing Company. She also served as the administrative assistant for the Physics Department at Merrimack College for many years. Nancy was hard working and very talented, but her most satisfying role was that of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Family was her first priority and she devoted herself to creating memories of laughter, song, and good food. Nancy was generous beyond measure and she found her own happiness in giving selflessly to others.
In addition to her mother and father, Nancy was predeceased by her younger brother, Philip Lostimolo. God also called her infant and first born son Joseph home. The heartbeat of Nancy’s life, her son Robert Joseph Traina, was also called to heaven far too early on July 11, 2006. Most recently, Nancy lost her husband and soul mate of 59 years, Joseph R. Traina, who passed from this life on June 23, 2012. Now, Nancy is at rest and reunited with her husband, sons, brother, and parents, once again.
Nancy will be most sadly missed by her devoted daughter, Dr. Mary A. Toomey of Methuen, her loving granddaughter Stephanie A. (Toomey) Goudreau and her husband Charles R. Goudreau of Salem N.H., and her grandson Jason M. Toomey and his wife Kim of Northbridge, MA. The light and pride of Nancy’s life has been the joy of her great-grandchildren, Connor Joseph Goudreau (age 6), Bryan Robert Goudreau (age 3), and Norah Mary Goudreau (7 months). They will miss their “grammy” and “best friend” very much. Nancy taught her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the value of family and the example of unconditional love. Nancy’s memory will be honored through recollections of happy times and family celebrations.
