Methuen, MA — Lucila Quiles, a former elementary school teacher in the Lawrence School System, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Wingate Nursing Home in Haverhill. Lucy was born and educated in Puerto Rico, and was the daughter of the late Francisco Domenech and his wife, Ramonita Vazquez, who survives her.
She received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Puerto Rico, and held teacher licenses in Massachusetts and Puerto Rico. Lucy moved to Lawrence in 1993, to join her family and began her career at the Frost School. She taught at the Oliver and Guilmette schools, until illness forced her into retirement. She enjoyed travel.
In addition to her mother, Lucy is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Rafael A. Quiles of Methuen; sons, Rafael A. Quiles Jr. of Lowell, Javier A. Quiles of Puerto Rico, Ricardo A. Quiles and his wife, Karen (Medrano) Quiles of Texas, and Jan K. Quiles and his wife, Sara, of Methuen; six grandchildren; brother, Francisco "Paquito" Domenech; and a sister, Irelis Domenech.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 23, at 11 a.m., in the Farrah Funeral Home, 133 Lawrence Street, Lawrence. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Lawrence. Friends may call Monday, July 22, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
