North Andover — Claire D. Mercier of North Andover, formerly of Lawrence, passed away June 21, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Aldea Barbin, and was one of 11 children. Claire was predeceased by her husband, Albert J. Mercier; and her daughter, Joanne P. Mercier.
She was the loving mother to Russell Mercier and his wife, Barbara, of North Andover, and Diane Curtis of Chester, N.H.; adoring grandmother to Laura Chin
and her husband, Jason, and Karen Mercier of North Andover; and proud great-grandmother to Caden and Harper Chin. Claire also leaves behind six sisters in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
She was born and raised in Lawrence, Mass., and attended Saint Anne's School.
After working a short time, Claire took on the role of housewife and stay-at home-mother. Claire was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who loved being with her family and helping them in any way she could. Later in life, this allowed her to spend countless hours with her granddaughters. While watching them grow up Claire spent time teaching them how to cook and garden. She was a fantastic cook (her turkey pie was always a family favorite). As an adoring great-grandmother, she always had time to get down on the floor to play trains, or watch cartoons. Claire always enjoyed her daily phone calls with her goddaughter, Cindy. She would never pass up the opportunity to go to lunch with her nieces, Cindy
Gingras and Linda Lacasse. "Mem," as her friends and family called her, was an amazing listener, secret keeper, and breakfast buddy. She will be greatly missed.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Home Instead Senior Care and Merrimack Valley Hospice who helped the family care for Claire.
