Tyngsboro — Aristotle C. “Telly” Vurgaropulos, 91, passed away Saturday, July 5th, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Niki (Theodorou) Vurgaropulos, with whom he had shared 63 loving years of marriage.
Telly was born in Lowell, Mass., on September 16, 1922, and was the sixth of seven children of the late Magdalene (Bacos) and Charles Vurgaropulos. Telly was a graduate of Lowell High School. He then went on to attend Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences for three years until he transferred to Boston University, where he earned a Bachelor of Sscience in Education, and then Rivier College, where he earned his master's.
Besides English, he was fluent in Greek, Latin and French. He greatly enjoyed reading and commenting on poetry, filling the margins of his books with notes. Telly had three passions in life: the outdoors, teaching and lumber. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed camping, hiking the mountains of New England, and fly fishing. Shortly after marriage, he and Niki moved to New Hampshire to work for its fish and game department. He then moved onto teaching biology, retiring from Andover High School after 30 years. Long after retirement, he still had students contacting him. Telly also loved trees and wood. He operated Tyngsboro Logging for over 50 years, making many types of specialty lumber for his loyal customers.
Telly was a loving father and grandfather. In addition to his wife, Telly leaves behind his children, James and his wife, Andrea, of Tyngsboro, Anne Calcote and her husband, Don, of Memphis, Tenn.; his brother, Christopher and sister-in-law, Penny, of Lowell; a sister-in-law, Effie Makris of Concord, N.H.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Telly was preceded in death by his son, Ted; his brothers, Demetrios, Arthur, James, and John; and his sister, Thalia Michopoulos.
