Madison, WI — Alice L. (Foisy) Poirier, 87 of Madison, Wis., formerly of Haverhill, Mass., passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2014, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Poirier was the wife of Alfred N. Poirier.
Born in Haverhill on January 19, 1927, Mrs. Poirier was the daughter of the late Albert and Roberta (Stevens) Foisy and later Odiele (Paradis) Foisy. She attended Haverhill schools, worked in the local shoe industry as a heel setter, and married her husband, Alfred, in 1946. She was a homemaker and lived in the Haverhill area for most of her life, until eventually retiring to travel across the country with her husband, settling Las Vegas, Nev., and later in Madison, Wis., to be closer to family.
Alice was highly devoted to her family. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Haverhill. She loved nature, traveling, music, and working on crafts. She knitted and crocheted avidly, and spent much of her time in later years making gifts for friends, charities, and new acquaintances. She was remarkable in her unending kindness, cheery disposition, and lifelong focus on caring for others, particularly her dear friend, the late Gladys Anderson.
Besides her husband of 67 years, Alfred, she is survived by her children, Beverly of Westbridge, B.C., David of Lutz, Fla., and his son, David Jr., Mark, his wife, Majka, and son, Alexander of Warsaw, Poland, Frank of Las Vegas, Jeff and his wife, Noreen, of Madison; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Ruth Klinch, Louise Ayers, Gloria Fairbrother, Amidas Sayers, and Winifred Dupont.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg, Wis., for their devotion and compassion, and the wonderful care given to her.
