Merrimac, MA — Alice J. (Stewart) Dow, 77, lifelong Merrimac resident, died at her home early Monday morning, July 7, 2014, after a lengthy illness. She was the loving wife of the late Austin Dow.
Born in Merrimac on May 6, 1937, she was one of five children of the late Robert A. and Florence M. (Annand) Stewart. She was a graduate of the former Merrimac High School, and worked at Western Electric until her retirement.
Her survivors include nieces, Kim Stewart of Bangor, Maine, Lorna Neville of Methuen, Mass., Linda Steir and Sharon Bateman, both of Atkinson, N.H.; her nephew, Raymond and wife, Patricia Bateman of Nottingham, N.H.; along with other nieces and nephews. She was also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews, Robert, Morgan, Marika, Courtney, Emily, Jack, and Adam; and many dear friends.
She will be missed by them all.
She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, Margaret Bateman, Robert Stewart, Richard Stewart, and Shirley Cote.
The love of her nieces and nephew and their families, whom she considered more like children and grandchildren, brought her the greatest joy.
Alice loved her home in Merrimac and enjoyed spending countless hours tending to her beautiful garden.
ARRANGEMENTS: By her request, services and interment in Locust Grove Cemetery, Merrimac, will be private for the family and there will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack Street, Lawrence, MA 01843.
