Haverhill — Renée L. (Pelletier) Costa, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at home Tuesday, March 12, 2013, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Renée was born on September 4, 1968, in Passaic, N.J., grew up in Falmouth, Mass., and was daughter to George “Skip” Pelletier and Sandra (Bernardo) Pelletier, of Falmouth, Mass., and the late Nancy Conger.
Renée graduated with the Falmouth High School Class of 1986. She then graduated from Baystate Medical School of Nursing in Springfield, Mass. She was a registered nurse having worked for Merrimack Valley Visiting Nurse Association specializing in maternal and newborn pediatric healthcare. Renée’s love for nursing and dedication to helping others kept her active in her profession and the community for many years despite her illness.
For her courage and commitment to her family and others, Renée was a recipient of the 2011 Unsung Heroine Award, given annually by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women at the Boston State House. Renée was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Andover, where she participated in Vacation Bible School, taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Bell Choir.
Renée’s love and passion for her family and children were evident in the many volunteer hours spent with Boy Scout meetings and outings, chaperoned school trips, and her daughter Jennifer’s essay having won first place in the Eagle Tribune’s 2011 Mother’s Day Essay Contest. She would often leave directly from chemotherapy treatment to a school activity and had been known for attending her sons’ Boy Scout camping trips while still recovering from surgery. Nothing would keep Renée from enjoying life with her family and friends.
Renée is survived by her four children, Alexandra, Aaron, Hayden, and Jennifer; and her loving husband, Sean P. Costa all of Haverhill, Mass. In addition, she is survived by her mother-in-law, Barbara Magill; sisters-in-law, Becky (Costa) McIntyre and husband Tim, and Danielle (Costa) Mortimore and husband Christian of Port Charlotte, Fla.; her grandmother, Nina (Gardner) Bernardo; her brother, George Pelletier; her sisters, Janina Pelletier, Carrie Leonard and her husband, Tim, Kelli Pelletier, and Jana Pelletier and her fiancée, Derrick Benner, all of Falmouth, Mass.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
