Haverhill — Leonard R. Corcoran died peacefully in his sleep, March 14, 2013, under the loving care of his family. His wife of 70 years, Ruth (Maguire) Corcoran, was by his side.
Leonard was born on September 7, 1919, in Haverhill, Mass., to John J. and Julia (Sullivan) Corcoran.
A Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII, Leonard served in New Guinea, Australia and the Philippines for 22 months where he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Service Ribbon with one battle star and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
A graduate of Lowell Textile Institute, Leonard earned a B.S. in Chemistry. He was the owner of the L.R. Corcoran Chemical Co.
Leonard was the father of eight children, Tom Corcoran of Braintree, Stephen Corcoran of Bradford, Larry Corcoran of Haverhill, Martha Corcoran of Newburyport, Andrew Corcoran of Bradford, Mary (Corcoran) Senior of Bradford, Monica Corcoran of Newburyport, and Margo (Corcoran) Howard of Haverhill; and grandfather to 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his grandson, Kevin Howard.
ARRANGEMENTS: At Leonard’s request, there will be no visiting hours. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Monday March 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Hearts Church, Bradford. Interment with military honors will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, Bradford. Arrangements are by H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill and Bradford.
