Barbara A. (Galvin) Mann


Haverhill — Barbara A. (Galvin) Mann, 90, passed away on March 18, 2013 at Wingate at Haverhill. Mrs. Mann was the wife of the late James H. Mann, Jr.

Born in Medford on February 14, 1923, Barbara was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Campbell) Galvin.

Barbara graduated from the High School of Practical Arts in Boston, and attended Framingham State College. For many years she worked in Haverhill as a reading aide at the Tilton School. She then worked twenty years as a Directory Assistance Operator for the former New England Telephone Company. Barbara was an original member of St. John the Baptist Church, a member of the Florence Crittenton League and the Women’s City Club of Haverhill. Her interests and talents were many and included travel to Europe, cooking, needlepoint, and many enjoyable trips with her family to Boston where they enjoyed movies and plays.

Barbara is survived by her children, Deborah L. MacDonald and her husband Robert of Haverhill, Gregory E. Mann of Haverhill, grandchildren, Maxwell Mann of Waltham, Bailey Mann of Plaistow; siblings, Patricia Shea of Albany, NY and Francis Galvin of Dedham, MA, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, James H. Mann, III, and siblings Mariana Manley, Dorothea Comerford, James Galvin, Lawrence Galvin, Paul Galvin.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to the service on Friday at 9:00 a.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral Mass at St John the Baptist Church. Calling hour Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment at the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
