Ruth E. (Coulter) Armstrong

Amesbury — Ruth E. (Coulter) Armstrong, 92, of Amesbury, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Maplewood Manor in Amesbury. She was the wife of the late, James R. Armstrong who died in 2003.

Born in Winchester on June 21, 1920, she was the daughter of the late William and Rachel (Phinney) Coulter and was a secretary at R. G. Watkins Company in Amesbury for 25 years.

Ruth raised her family on the family farm on Pleasant Valley Road in Amesbury. When Ruth and her husband retired, they moved to East Kingston, N.H. fully enjoying every minute of their “golden years.” She was an avid reader, loved bowling and playing cards with friends, and remained a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Amesbury throughout her life.

She is survived by a son, James R. “Skip” Armstrong, Jr. of Barrington, N.H.: two daughters, Marsha A. Connell and husband, Paul of Bradford, and Patricia A. Vien and husband, Joseph of No. Hampton, N.H.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra R. Armstrong.

ARRANGEMENTS: A graveside service will be held Friday, March 29 at 11 a.m. at Union Cemetery in Amesbury. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Our Neighbors' Table, Post Office Box 592, Amesbury, MA 01913. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury.
