Vincent J. Ahearn, 88

Methuen — Vincent J. Ahearn, 88, of Methuen passed away peacefully at the Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, April 25, surrounded by his loving family. Vincent was the widower of the late Mary (Milia) Ahearn who died in 2010 after 58 years of marriage.

Vincent was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to John D. and Elizabeth (Keegan) Ahearn, and lived in the Merrimack Valley area since 1952. He was a veteran of both World War II and The Korean conflict, serving his country as a corporal in the U. S. Army in Germany and later in Korea. Most of his time in the military was spent as a hospital orderly and a medical technician. We are proud to say he was the recipient of several medals, including the Purple Heart, The World War II Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal.

He was a retired U.S. Postal Service employee and worked for several years after retirement as a locker room attendant at the Andover Country Club. Vincent was a lover of nature who enjoyed the simpler pleasures of life, including trips to the mountains and quiet walks in the woods. He was known and loved by his family and friends, and later his caregivers for his kind and gentle nature and sense of humor which never failed him right until the very end.

Vincent is survived by his devoted daughter, Phyllis E. Tenney and her husband, Daniel, of North Andover; sons, Robert B. Ahearn and his wife, Catherine, also of North Andover, Daniel J. Ahearn and John A. Ahearn, both of Methuen; five grandchildren, Brian, Andrea, Amber, Christopher, and Robert Ahearn; and several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends will be received at visiting hours on Sunday, April 28, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen.
