Rye, N.H. — Anne T. “Nancy” Batal, 82, of Rye, formerly of Andover, Mass., passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 12, 2013 after a brief illness.
She was born in Somerville, Mass. the daughter of the late James and Mary (White) Scanlan, and was raised in Belmont, Mass.
Nancy was a graduate of Marymount College of Tarrytown, N.Y. She enjoyed careers as a school teacher of the 3rd grade in Everett, Mass., and later as an interior designer in the greater Boston area.
Nancy spent many years as president of the Andover Garden Club and following retirement with her husband to Rye, she enjoyed entertaining family and friends and attending daily mass at her local parish, St. Theresa Church.
She was the wife of the late John T. “Jack” Batal.
Family members include two daughters, Marcia Batal-Rogers and her husband, James and their son, Jack of Hampton, Lee Anne Batal of Wakefield, Mass.; her two brothers, James W. Scanlan and wife, Alice of Winchester, Mass., Francis Scanlan of Burlington, Vt.; her sister, Priscilla Boyle and her husband, Charlie of Westport, Conn., and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Alice Connolly.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Rd., Hampton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2013, at Saint Theresa Church, 820 Central Rd., Rye Beach. Burial will follow in the Central Cemetery, Rye.
