Ossipee, NH — Marilyn A. Sawyer, 83, died Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the Mountain View Community in Ossipee after a long period of failing health.
Marilyn was born in Bangor, Maine, on August 3, 1929, the daughter of Forrest and Mildred (Wilder) Ames and had been living in Ossipee since 2009, moving from Newton, N.H. Prior to her retirement she taught first grade in the Kingston, N.H., school system and prior to that taught preschoolers in Bradford, N.H. She was a former girl scout leader, active in PTA and involved in 4-H. Her favorite hobby was photography and she also enjoyed painting and sketching.
Surviving members of the family include her husband, Nathaniel H. Sawyer Sr. of East Wakefield, N.H.; one son, Nathaniel “Chip” H. Sawyer Jr. and his wife, Laurie, of New Hampton, N.H.; two daughters, Christina Bertogli and her husband, John, of East Wakefield, and Lorna McHugh and her husband, John, of Plaistow, N.H. She also leaves one sister, Priscilla Pike and her husband, Thomas, of Stores, Conn.; as well as seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services will be held at Rochester Cemetery on June 1, 2013, at 1 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association, One Bedford Farms Drive, Suite 105, Bedford, NH 03110.
