LAWRENCE — Charles R. Spadaro Jr. 80, a native of this city passed away Monday at his South Lawrence home.
He was the loving husband of 57 years of Joan Gladys (Swarbrick) Spadaro, they were married in St. Patrick Church on November 25, 1952; she died September 14, 2009.
Enlisting in the US Army in July of 1952, he proudly served in Korea and earned the rank of Sgt. First Class and platoon leader. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge among several other military decorations.
Early in his career he worked in his own catering business and in masonry. Later he retired from Wang Laboratories after 16 years there.
Mr. Spadaro enjoyed being in the company of children. He was fond of animals and was a sports enthusiast. An avid reader, he had great knowledge of the civil war and other military theatres.
He was a member of the Lawrence British Club and the Colonial Heights Neighborhood Association.
Family members include one sister, Sadie Rosley of Conn.; nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral from The Diaz-Healy Funeral Home, 107 South Broadway, Opposite St. Patrick Church, South Lawrence. Calling hours, Thursday, Nov. 15, from 10 to 11 AM. A service will take place at 11AM in the funeral home’s South Chapel. Final acts of farewell and laying to rest with military honors will follow in our parish cemetery Holy Sepulchre, North Andover.
