Andover — Margaret C. (Dooley) Roberts, 93, died on October 11, 2012 at the Prescott House Nursing Home in North Andover, MA .
Born on March 21, 1919 in Andover, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Helen Collins Dooley of Andover and James R. Dooley of North Andover and widow of Walter F. Roberts who died in 1981.
She graduated from Punchard High School in 1937 and Simmons College in 1941 with a Science degree. She took graduate studies at Harvard University and Boston University. She worked in the medical research field in Boston, New York and Washington D.C. In mid-life Margaret changed careers to banking and finally to the Internal Revenue Service. She retired from the IRS in 1981.
A woman of many interests she was an active member and volunteer at the Andover Historical Society, Robert S. Peabody Museum of Archeology, and a fundraiser for Simmons College for over 25 years. In addition, Margaret was a strong supporter for conservation and preservation, being part of AVIS (she and her mother donated land to), Mass Audubon Society and Smithsonian Institute.
She was a longtime member of the West Parish Church where she volunteered as a historian for the church and was a member of the music committee and the Women’s Evening Circle.
Margaret is survived by several cousins.
She was very thankful for the wonderful care given to her by the staff of the B Wing at Prescott House Nursing Home for the last several years.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held on Wednesday October 17th at 11:00 at the West Parish Church. Burial at the Spring Grove Cemetery will be private.
