Windham, N.H. — Donald T. McDermott, 84, of Windham, N.H. passed away Sunday, September 23, at his home. Donald was born in Leominster, August 15 1928 to the late Nelson J. and Josephine (Donnellan) McDermott. He was raised in Billerica, and graduated from Howe High School. He then spent four years in the United States Navy, before attending Tufts University.
He worked for over 32 years for Western Electric, AT&T, which later became Lucent. For a few of those years, he was loaned to Raytheon and worked as a supervisor on the Safe Guard Project. He retired from AT&T as a public relations specialist. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He resided in Windham, N.H. for 35 years and his neighbors were like family. He was a member of St. Matthew Parish. Donald was a lifelong outdoorsman, who enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, mountain climbing, tennis, and skiing. He loved nature and over his lifetime he had several dogs that were very special to him.
He was predeceased by his brother, Nelson J. McDermott, Jr. and two grandchildren, Casey and Claire. Don leaves his beloved wife Joanne (Dillon) McDermott; three children, Donald T. McDermott Jr. and wife Sarah of Washington, David E. McDermott and his wife Angelica of Portsmouth, N.H., Anne Marie McDermott of Mashpee; stepson, Jack Hamm and his wife Linda of Illinois; step godson, Bill Green and his wife Claire; five grandsons, Connor, Aaron, Ryan, Kevin, and Christopher; one great granddaughter, Emily and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Matthew Church, 2 Searles Rd, Windham, N.H. on Saturday, October 27 at 10 a.m. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the MSPCA, Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA, 10844 or to the charity of ones choice.
