Hampstead, N.H. — Lyman Dodge Currier, 90, of Hampstead died peacefully November 8,2012 surrounded by family. The eldest son of Glenn Currier and Etta Dodge Currier, Lyman was born May 26,1922 in Andover, N.H.

He graduated from Andover High School class of 1941 as a distinguished student, athlete and citizen. Upon completion of Concord Trade School, Lyman worked at the Boston-Laconia Machine Company in Boston.

He was drafted by the Army during World War II. He served as a member of the 149th Armored Signal Corps from October 1942 thru December 1945. Serving in France, Luxemburg, Belgium and Germany, Lyman fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star at Remagen Bridge Head after crossing the Rhine River on March 8,1945 opening the final phase of the allied campaign in West Germany.

After discharge from the Army, Lyman became a self-employed carpenter in Andover, N.H. He later joined the New England Electrical Company. Originally working in Andover before transfer to Tewksbury, the family moved to Hampstead, N.H. in 1965. Lyman retired from New England Electrical Company in 1984.

While living in Andover, Lyman was a member of the Andover Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion Post 101, Blackwater Grange, and Manager of Andover Little League.

Residing in Hampstead, Lyman was a volunteer umpire for Hampstead Little League for over 25years. In 1982 the Lyman D. Currier Little League Field was dedicated in his honor. He has been a member of the Hampstead Congregational Church for 45 years.

He enjoyed wood working, gardening, hunting, fishing and sports of all kinds. He enthusiastically attended the sporting events of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed travel and spending winters in Florida. Above all, Lyman is remembered as a loving, compassionate, and gentle husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

Lyman will live eternally through the lives of his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Thompson Currier, his children, Carolyn Janes of Tilton, Bob Currier and wife Susan of Andover, Colleen Currier Simpson and husband Don and Peter Currier and wife Anne Marie of Hampstead. Lyman was also a beloved dad to Gary Currier of Andover, Twila Currier Wain and husband Scott of Hampstead, and Tina Currier Parris and husband Mark of Pembroke; grandfather to 19 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and sis great- great-grandchildren. His siblings include, Charlotte Clark and Clyde Currier of Andover and Wallace Currier of Salisbury. He has an extended family of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was pre-deceased by daughter-in-law, Joan Dumas Currier; grandson, Stewart “Woody” McLeod, and granddaughter Brianna Jeanne Wain.

ARRANGEMENTS: There will be no calling hours. Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, November 17 at 1 p.m. at Hampstead Congregational Church. Graveside services will be Sunday, November 18 at 1:30 p.m. Lakeview Cemetery, East Andover, N.H.

1st Lt. Paul M. DeMeo, 23

Derry, NH and Fort Bragg, NC — U.S. Army Ranger 1st Lt. Paul M. DeMeo, 23, of Derry, N.H., died unexpectedly May 14, while stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Paul was serving as a rifle platoon leader for Company B, 2nd Battalion, 505th Infantry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. Born at U.S. Army Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands on Oct. 1, 1989, Paul was a 2011 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Management. He was a 2007 graduate of Pinkerton High School. He joined the 2nd/505th in August 2012. Paul was a 2012 graduate of the Infantry Officer Leadership Basic Course, U.S. Army Ranger School and U.S. Army Airborne School. In his current assignment as a rifle platoon leader, Paul was responsible for leading an airborne infantry platoon capable of deploying in 18 hours to fight and win against a determined enemy. He was responsible for the health, welfare and performance of 38 paratroopers; as well as the care and accountability of more than $500,000 worth of unit equipment.

Derry, NH — Eldon S. “Barney” Morine, 89, of Derry, N.H., died Thursday, May 23, at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry, N.H. Barney was born and educated in Maine. He served in the U.S. Marines during WWII and he received a purple heart. Barney was a self employed contractor and a member of the DAV. He enjoyed fishing and camping. He was an avid Red Sox Fan and he loved dogs. Salem, NH — Sharon M. (Flowers) Sweet, age 64, of Salem, N.H., died Thursday at the Parkland Medical Center, Derry, N.H. She was born in New Carlisle, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of the late Wilson and Hazel Flowers. She grew up and was educated in Quebec and Montreal, Canada. She was a resident of Salem for the past 43 years. Sharon was a controller for Pinnacle Solutions in Ward Hill, Mass. She was an avid golfer. She was a member of the Scottish Highland and Crystal Springs Golf Club, and the NH Women’s Golf Association. She is survived by her husband, James Sweet of Salem, N.H.; son, James A. and his wife Phyllis Sweet of Salem, N.H.; brothers, Lloyd and his wife Judy Flowers of Canada, Gary and his wife Sharon Flowers of Canada; granddaughter, Samantha Marie Sweet; and several nieces and nephews.

Georgetown — Walter H. Janes, 88, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport surrounded by caring family members. He was born in Chelsea, Mass., on October 17, 1924 to the late John E. and Clara (Howell) Janes. Raised and educated in Chelsea, he was a graduate of Chelsea High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served proudly during WWII. Following an honorable discharge, he enrolled in Wentworth Institute of Technology and graduated with the Class of 1947.

He was very active in the Special Olympics and he won numerous medals and trophies in different events through the years. He was also involved in several local bowling leagues and enjoyed spending his free time with his girlfriend, Tina, and his large group of friends from the area.

Reading, formerly of Lawrence — Helen D. (DeFusco) Rickley of Reading, formerly of Lawrence, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Helen was predeceased by her parents, Pasqualina (Miele) and Alexander, and her sister, Evelyn. Helen had a beauty of character and personality that was noticed by everyone she met. She devoted her life to raising and loving her family. She also devoted a good part of her life to her parish church and the elementary school children of Reading at Pearl Street and Killam Schools. She served as a volunteer teacher’s aide at the two schools for almost 30 years. She served at St. Athanasius in the old Arts and Crafts group and sang in the church choir for almost 35 years.
