LAWRENCE — Estela Reyes, 59, a long-time resident of Lawrence passed away Wednesday at Lawrence General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She is the wife of Gilberto Reyes, Sr., of Lawrence with whom she shared 34 years of marriage.
She was a native of Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico where she was raised and educated and was the daughter of Agustin Hernandez and Auria Rodriguez.
She attended Merrimack College and early in her career was employed as an outpatient nurse. Later her main occupation was caring for her children and making sure her family’s home was comfortable.
In addition to her husband and best friend, she was the proud mother of three sons, Alexander Hernandez, Gil J. Reyes, Jr., Frank G. Reyes; family members include, five brothers, the late Victor E. Hernandez, Gregorio Hernandez, Agustin Hernandez, Adalberto Hernandez, Marco Antonio Hernandez; five sisters, her twin Auria Hernandez, Maria Hernandez, Ruth Hernandez, Yolanda Hernandez, Santa Hernandez; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral from The Diaz-Healy Funeral Home, 107 So. Broadway, Opposite St. Patrick Church, South Lawrence. Calling hours, Sunday, Oct. 14, from 4 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 AM in St. Mary of the Assumption Parish. Final acts of farewell and laying to rest will follow in Bellevue Cemetery.
