Cardiff, Calif. — Nancy Pendergast Niday, 57, died unexpectedly on September 23 at her home in Cardiff-by-the-Sea,
Calif. Nancy was born in Lawrence to Thomas H. Pendergast, Jr. and Marguerite M. Pendergast (who preceded her in death in 1995). She attended St. Patrick’s School in Lawrence; Lawrence High School, where she was senior class president; and the University of Massachusetts, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in agronomy. After graduation, she moved to the San Diego area, establishing her own company, NPN Landscape, which served many commercial and residential clients and earned numerous industry awards. Nancy was a licensed contractor and certified arborist.
She married Gilbert Niday in 1984 and they had one child, Tyler. He recently graduated from California Polytechnic University.
Nancy was a gentle soul who possessed the gifts of passion, charity and integrity in all she touched - her family, the people she worked with and her close friends, all who came to be her spiritual brothers and sisters.
In addition to her son, Nancy is survived by her father and stepmother Alice (Aldonis) Pendergast, of Peabody; sisters Ellen, and husband Bill Trainer of Beaverton, Ore.; Susan and husband Dr. James DiResta, of West Newbury and brother, Thomas and wife Diane Pendergast III, of Amesbury. Other survivors include her former husband, three stepsons, and an extended family of aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Amesbury (School St.); interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Amesbury.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nancy’s name to the individual’s charity of choice.
