Lawrence — Ignatius “Jim” Mangano, 95, of Lawrence passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Wingate at Andover after an extended illness. He was the husband of Santina “Sandy” (Ciulla) Mangano, whom he shared 65 years of marriage.
Jim was born in Boston May 7, 1917. The family soon after settled in Lawrence where he lived his entire life. He was the eldest of seven children, born to John and Marion (Giamo) Mangano.
He graduated from Lawrence High School and Radio Technical School in Boston. He was employed by Raytheon for over 30 years until his retirement.
Jim served his country during WWII from 1942 – 1946.He was a decorated top sergeant in the 349th Infantry Regiment, 88 Blue Devil Division, participating in the North African and Italian Campaigns. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Man Badge.
He was the father of the late James Mangano, who passed away in 1996 and brother of the late Carmelo Mangano, Frances Patti and Rose Giammarinaro.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his son, John Mangano and his partner John Lamoureux; his brothers, George Mangano and his wife Charlotte and John Mangano and his wife Ann and his sister, Caroline “Carrie” Giantonio. There are also many nieces and nephews.
The entire family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation for the love and care Jim received from the nurses and staff at the Wingate at Andover as well as the care and kindness received by the staff of Beacon Hospice.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Cataudella Funeral Home 126 Pleasant Valley St. Methuen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 11, 2013 in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence.
