Mary R. Pucci, 89

North Andover — Mary R. (Grasso) Pucci, 89, of North Andover, passed away Tuesday at Wingate in Andover, after an extended illness.

As a lifelong area resident, she grew up and lived many years in Lawrence, and later resided in Andover, and then North Andover. Attending Lawrence Public Schools and developing an interest in music, she pursued an education at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, graduating with majors in cello and piano.

For most of her career, Mary worked in education and related programs for young people. She was a youth program director at the Lawrence YWCA, and also taught elementary school and music education classes, including many years at the Holy Rosary parochial school in Lawrence.

Among her favorite leisure activities were times spent at the family beach cottage in Ogunquit, Maine for over fifty years, especially enjoying large gatherings of family and friends, featuring backyard dining under the pine trees. More than occasional after-dinner trips to Perkins Cove or Kennebunkport for an ice cream cone were also an obligatory part of many summer nights.

After retirement, Mary enjoyed traveling with her late husband, Raymond, as well as her sister, Rose, in the US, Canada, and Europe. Favorite destinations included various regions in Italy, especially Sicily, her ancestral home. Annual trips to the Metropolitan Opera in New York City also became a preferred part of the travel itinerary.

Mary was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Raymond. She is survived by her son, Raymond of Lexington; her sister, Rose Grasso of North Andover and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the healthcare staff at Wingate in Andover.
