Lawrence — Ronald J. Bellanti, 71, of Lawrence, passed away at Lahey Clinic, after a brief illness.
Ronald J. Bellanti was born in Lawrence on March 20, 1942. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1959.
He graduated from the Massachusetts State Police Academy in 1963. During his 21-year career as a Massachusetts State Trooper, Mr. Bellanti was stationed in Concord, Topsfield, Leominster, Sturbridge, and Logan Airport. He was elected president of the State Police Association of Massachusetts (SPAM) and held this position until his retirement in 1984.
Upon his retirement from the State Police, Mr. Bellanti was employed by American Express as the regional director of security for New England.
Prior to his death, he was the co-chairman of the Retired Troopers Association (RTA) of Massachusetts.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline A. (Price) Bellanti; his children, Ronald Bellanti of Beverly, Mass., Donna Chastain of Amesbury, Mass., and Michael Bellanti and his wife, Lisa Bellanti of Portsmouth, N.H.; stepchildren, Thomas Souther and his wife, Tammy, of Lebanon, Maine, and Tami Newgard and her companion, David Dowling of Salisbury, Mass. He is survived by his sisters, Patricia Barcellona and Carole DeLotto and her husband, Butch DeLotto, both of Methuen, Mass. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nathaniel, Stephen and Tara Chastain of Amesbury, and Ashley, Matthew, and Brianna Souther, of Lebanon, and Ryan Anne Newgard of Salisbury; and great-grandchildren, Rylan Newgard and Shawn Queenan of Salisbury. He was predeceased by his parents, Domenic and Madeline Bellanti; and his brother, Gerald Bellanti.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, January 30, from 3 to 8 p.m., at the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Friday, January 31, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 300 Haverhill St., Lawrence. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lawrence.
