Joanne P. Allen, 71


Methuen — Joanne P. (Tommasino) Allen, 71, of Methuen, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2014, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, Mass. She was a daughter of the late Levio and Velma (Lynch) Tommasino, and the former wife of the late Frederick E. Allen Jr.

Joanne was born in Lawrence, Mass., on October 16, 1942. She attended Lawrence, Mass., schools and was a 1960 graduate of Lawrence High School. Joanne’s love for teaching lead her to obtain a bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1964 from Framingham State Teachers College, and later a master’s degree from Salem State Teachers College. Joanne was employed as an elementary school teacher for the city of Methuen, Mass., at the Oakland Avenue, Marsh, Howe and C.G.S. schools, from which she retired after 43 years of teaching. She had currently been a reading tutor at the C.G.S.

Joanne is survived by her sister, Patricia J. Lough (William); her nephews, John E. Desrosiers (Kristen) and Ryan T. Desrosiers (Shannon); her nieces, Heather Courcy and Trisha Lough. She leaves great-nephews, Tristen Courcy, Aiden Courcy and Brendan Desrosiers. She also leaves her aunt, Patricia Pinskey-West of Bristol, R.I.; and several cousins. She will be greatly missed by her loving dogs, Emily and Heidi.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral Mass on Saturday February 1, at 11 a.m., at St. Monica’s Church, 212 Lawrence St., Methuen. At Joanne request there will be no visiting hours. Burial will be private.
