Methuen, MA — Dorothy E. (Moore) Taylor, R.N., 93, of Methuen, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 27, of a heart condition.
Dorothy was born in Springfield New Brunswick, Canada; the daughter of the late Dow and Ethel (Snow) Moore. Dorothy moved with her family to Lawrence as a young child and attended Lawrence schools, graduating from Lawrence High in 1937, and later the Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing in 1940.
After graduating, Dorothy worked for many years at Lawrence General, Brooks School, Phillips Academy and Abbott Academy as a private duty nurse. She also worked at Dasa, in Andover, and Raytheon, Andover, for about five years, and was a long time member of the First Calvary Baptist Church of North Andover, formerly of Lawrence.
Dorothy loved working with children, especially nursing and taking care of students. After her children were grown, she went back to nursing at Merrimack College Infirmary until her retirement.
Dorothy also enjoyed cooking for her family and making their clothes, especially for her daughter, her flower and vegetable gardens, and was especially proud of her home that she and her husband built. Other interests included square dancing and bee keeping as a hobby and going to the Topsfield Fair.
Dorothy traveled many times to Maine and Canada to visit family with her husband James.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, James J. Taylor of Methuen. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, daughter, Joyce and husband Lee Snodgrass of Methuen, Mass.; sons Donald and wife, Mary Kay Taylor of Rockingham, Vt., Kenneth and wife, Donna Taylor of Vero Beach, Fla., and Allen and wife, Carol Taylor of Salem, N.H. She leaves 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by two brothers, Charles and wife, Jessica Moore of Salem, N.H., and Howard Moore of New Hampshire, and sister-in-law, Ruth Moore of Methuen, Mass., and in-laws Dorothy Taylor, Albert and Pat Taylor, Paul and MaryAlice Taylor and Margie Taylor and their families.
