Kennebunk Beach, ME, formerly of Methuen, MA — Edward J. "Jack" Sperling, 76, of Kennebunk Beach, Maine, formerly of Methuen, Mass., died peacefully, Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Huntington Commons in Kennebunk, Maine.
The son of the late Edward G. and Josephine A. (Jessel) Sperling, Jack was born in Methuen, Mass., on February 6, 1937. He attended Methuen schools and was a graduate of Tenney High School, Class of 1954, in Methuen. At Tenney High, he excelled in baseball. He still holds the record of 22 strike-outs in one game in high school baseball. He signed a contract in professional baseball with the Kansas City Athletics Baseball Team. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in Methuen athletics. He owned and operated Sperling Business Forms, a supplier of business forms and office products, until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He resided in Methuen, until moving to Kennebunk Beach, Maine, in 1978. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed and sold antiques, specilaizing in English commemoratives, in Maine.
Jack was the husband of the late Pauline C. (Turcotte) Sperling, who died April 13, 2004, and is survived by his brother-in-law and his wife, Paul and Camille Turcotte of Woonsocket, R.I. He leaves a loving family of many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves his dear friends, Jack and Patt Gage of Methuen and Jack and Judy Sholik of Salem, N.H.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, May 6, 2013, at 11 a.m. in St. Lucy's Church, Merrimack St., Methuen. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Lawrence. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, May 5, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Boles Memorial-Baron-McAuliffe-Yameen Funeral Home, 184 Jackson Street (Route 110 West, Exit 46, off I-495), Lawrence, MA 01841 (978-686-0386).
