Lawrence — John R. Bryson, 78, of Lawrence, died Sunday, August 11, at the Lawrence General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Lawrence, he was the son of the late, Robert J. and Loretta (Cartier) Bryson, and attended Lawrence public schools. A Veteran of the Korean War, he proudly served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Tarawa and was honorably discharged in 1957.
Mr. Bryson was employed as a Silk screener for the Raytheon Corporation in Andover for thirty-five years, retiring in 1995. He was an active lifetime member of the Elk’s Lodge, B.P.O.E. 65 in Lawrence, and was honored as Elk of the year in 1981. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he most enjoyed family barbecues.
The widower of Lorraine D. (Dubois) Bryson, who passed one week previous, on August 4, 2013, he is survived by his son, James M. and his wife, Kathleen M. Bryson, of Haverhill; four cherished grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, James McAninch, Susan and her husband, Gary Cummings, Kelly Bryson, and Jessica Silva; six great-grandchildren, Colin, Kevin and Ryan McAninch, Alyvia and Emma Cummings, and Madison Hertel; two brothers, Michael and his wife, Madelyn Bryson, of Windham, N.H., and Kevin and his wife, Diane Bryson, of Cherry Hill, N.J.; as well as many dear nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Dianne L. Bryson.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are respectfully invited to call today, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., (Route 125), Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Barker St., Lawrence.
