Cynthia Ann (Duncan) Armstrong


Haverhill, MA — Cynthia Ann (Duncan) Armstrong, passed away unexpectedly on April 24, 2014, in Newburyport.

Cynthia “Cindy” was born on Sept. 19, 1943 in Waterville, Maine to the late James and Ruth Duncan. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Maine, Orono and her M.Ed. from Fitchburg State College, MA. She was a devoted elementary school teacher for 34 years in the Groton-Dunstable Schools, MA and was highly respected and loved by her colleagues and students.

Cindy was a member of the John Greenleaf Whittier Homestead, Haverhill, Whittier Home Museum, Amesbury, The Ladies Circle at the Universalist Unitarian Church of Haverhill and the Hosford Club, Haverhill.

Cindy’s legacy is one of love and exquisitely simple, artful and graceful living. It lives on in her son, Adam Armstrong, his wife, Pamela Armstrong, and her beautiful grandchildren, James and Aaron Armstrong of Newburyport.

She will be deeply missed by her sister, Sharon Duncan Barresi and husband, Andrea Barresi of Oliveri, Sicily, Italy; her sister, Susan Duncan Wentworth of Newburyport; and their families, including her late brother, Peter Duncan’s family.

ARRANGEMENTS: A service to honor and celebrate Cindy’s life will be held on Saturday, May 17 at 11 a.m. at the Universalist Unitarian Church, 15 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill. Memorial donations may be made to the Alumni Association, University of Maine, Box 550, Orono, ME 04473. Arrangements made by Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport.
