Frances J. (Donovan) Cotton


Haverhill — Frances J. (Donovan) Cotton, 88, passed away on March 6, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Cotton was the wife of Roland T. Cotton.

Born in Bradford on March 11, 1924, Mrs. Cotton was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Frances (Rohan) Donovan.

Mrs. Cotton was educated in Haverhill and graduated from St. James High School, Class of 1942. She furthered her education graduating from Salem State Teacher’s College, Class of 1946, and receiving a Master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1952. She taught for many years at several schools in the Haverhill school system.

Mrs. Cotton was a member of Sacred Hearts Church and Court Sacred Hearts, Catholic Daughters of America. After moving to Riverside, she attended St. John the Baptist Church. She was a member of the Salem Club and Women’s City Club of Haverhill. She enjoyed her various collections, gardening and traveling with her husband to Europe and throughout the United States.

Besides her husband Roland of 54 years, she is survived by her children, Thomas W. Cotton and his wife Rhonda of Harvard, Mass., David R. Cotton and his wife Karen of Manalapan, N.J., and Jane F. Robbertz and her husband Anthony of Acton, Mass.; her brother, Charles J. Donovan of Groveland; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on March 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on March 20, 2013 at Sacred Hearts Church, Bradford. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery will be private.
