Haverhill — John P. Vellante, 68, of Haverhill died peacefully on Monday, February 11, 2013 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. John was born in Waltham on October 16, 1944 to the late Arthur and Annita (Mele) Vellante.
He was a 1962 graduate of St. Mary's High School and pursued higher education at Boston College. John was a retired sports writer for the Boston Globe and continued to write freelance up until 2012.
John is survived by his two daughters Lynne Parker and her husband, Craig of Annapolis, Md. and Tatiana Vellante of Andover; three sons, Michael Vellante of Waltham, Gregory Vellante and Jonathan Vellante both of Boston. Also among his survivors are his two brothers, Arthur W. Vellante and his wife, Jackie of Waltham and Robert J. Vellante and his wife, Cindy of Marlboro; as well as his sister-in-law, Kathy Vellante of Dracut; grandson, Anthony Vellante of Waltham; and dear companion, Nancy Lever of North Andover. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his brother, Anthony C. Vellante.
ARRANGEMENTS: A celebration of John's life will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third Street, North Andover. Private committal services will be held at a later date. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
