Antoinette C. (Bonasia) Bevilacqua


Haverhill, MA — Antoinette C. (Bonasia) Bevilacqua, 97, of Haverhill, died on Monday, March 10, surrounded by her family, at Holy Family Hospital, Methuen. She was the wife of the late Domenic J. Bevilacqua, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. Throughout her life, to family and friends, she was known as Nina.

Mrs. Bevilacqua was born in Haverhill on June 13, 1916, the daughter of Francis and Louise (Berardinelli) Bonasia. She was educated in the Haverhill Public Schools and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1933. She completed numerous post-secondary courses at area colleges in the field of remedial reading education. Mrs. Bevilacqua worked for 30 years as a remedial reading tutor in the Haverhill Public School system. During her career, she taught hundreds of children at the Bartlett, St. James, and Fox Elementary Schools.

She was a member of the former Saint Rita’s Parish and a current member of All Saints Parish.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Bevilacqua O’Brien of Newburyport, and Louise C. Bevilacqua of Haverhill; a granddaughter, Maria B. O’Brien and her husband, Sean C. Baptiste, of Somerville; and a grandson, Christian B. O’Brien of West Roxbury. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces, including Louise A. Sciuto of Newton, NH.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Michael R. Bonasia; her sister, Mary (Bonasia) Deramo; a sister, Concetta Bonasia, who died at the age of three in Italy; and a nephew, William C. Deramo.

ARRANGEMENTS: Arrangements are under the direction of Paul C. Rogers Family Scatamacchia Funeral Home. At Mrs. Bevilacqua’s request, there will be no calling hours. Friends and family are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Ave., Haverhill, on Saturday, March 15, at noon. Burial services at Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill, will be private. The family requests that flowers be omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the YWCA Haverhill, 107 Winter St., Haverhill; or to Bentley Library, Northern Essex Community College, 100 Elliott St., Haverhill; or to the Antoinette C. Bevilacqua Scholarship Fund, Haverhill Public Schools, 4 Summer St., Haverhill, which was established in her honor by Haverhill Public School teachers upon her retirement in 1998.
