Effingham, NH — Nelson O. Jewell, 92, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at the Catholic Medical Center, Manchester, N.H.
He was born January 29, 1922, in Madrid, Maine, the son of the late Otis and Thelma (Sargent) Jewell of Madrid, Maine. Nelson grew up in Maine with several relatives and later moved to Malden, Mass., where he attended the Boston Trade School studying Automobile Mechanics. He had worked as a mechanic for Brodie Industrial Trucks in Woburn, Mass., for 25 years, retiring in 1985. Nelson had lived in Saugus, Mass., for several years before moving to Effingham, N.H., in 2011 to live with his son, Gary, and his family.
He enjoyed spending time with his family at their camp in Maine, traveling with Ruby, snowmobiling, gardening, going to the library and reading.
He was a U.S. WWII Army Veteran serving in Europe.
Nelson was predeceased by his wife, Ruby (Wormstead) Jewell and is survived by his sons, Gary Jewell and his wife, Kimberly, Effingham, N.H., and Richard E. Jewell and his wife, LeeAnn, Lawrence, Mass.; as well as his 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Sunday, March 16, 2014, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee, N.H. A Funeral Service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. following the visitation. Burial will be in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake St., Peabody, Mass., on Monday, March 17, 2014, at 11 a.m.
